Visiting the Falls from the Bottom:
You can visit the bottom of the falls by boat. How close you get depends on the water flow. In recent years, the water has been abnormally high and prevented us from getting much closer than what you can see in the photo above. This may have changed by the time you read this, but with the force of the water at any time, don't expect to get super close!
How:
You can arrange a boat safari or fishing trip through Wild Frontiers, both of which will take you to see the bottom of the falls. Book through the website or reach out to Simon at Wild Frontiers on Whatsapp: +256 773 897275
When:
If you are just doing the safari, I would recommend going in the evening as the sun is setting because, in the morning hours, the sun rises just over the falls, making it difficult for photos.
Where:
Wild Frontiers boat launch is located just to the right of the new bridge crossing the Nile if you are going North in the park. For early morning trips, I recommend staying at Murchison River Lodge or Nile Safari Lodge, as they are much closer to the launching point than some other lodging options.
Visiting the Falls from the Top:
How:
You can drive there yourself on the newly paved road or get your driver/guide to take you there if you have a hired vehicle. It is on the south side of the Nile and easily accessible from Murchison River Lodge or Nile Safari Lodge.
When:
Any time of day is good, but it is nice in the afternoon when it is hot outside, and the spray from the falls feels like a refreshing gift!
Where:
Unfortunately, it is not marked on Google Maps, but if you drive north from the southern park gate or south from Murchison River Lodge on the main road, you will see a sign for the turn. It is hard to miss, so just keep an eye out for it! Once you make the turn, keep following the signs to the parking area.
Warning:
Keep a hold on your children, as there are areas where there are no guard rails, and your kids could be swept away in an instant if they took one step too close. See the pictures below!
